Based on the beloved middle readers book Cece Rios and the Desert of Souls (HarperCollins 2021) by Kaela Rivera, this original bilingual stage play is created and performed by the award-winning Austin company Glass Half Full Theatre.
Cece defies the narrow traditions of her desert village when she teams up with the mischievous spirit Coyote to rescue her sister from the criaturas of Tejano and Mexican folklore. As she ventures beyond the safety of her town and into a world of ancient desert spirits, Cece discovers that empathy is her greatest weapon. To save her sister, she must confront the centuries-old rift between her community and the criaturas who live on its outskirts, and find a way to heal a divide that has shaped both worlds for generations.
Sonia has always been scared of storms and the dark. One day, a giant storm cuts the power in her house. With the help of a mythical creature, she learns to find the light within herself.
Bring natural science and creative storytelling to life and discover how imagination helps us understand the world around us! This interactive performance combines a giant lantern puppet with a shadow puppetry adventure. Designed to inspire curiosity and resilience, the show encourages students to learn from our animal and plant neighbors how to adapt to changing weather.
We are on the Texas Touring Roster, so Texas schools and performance venues can apply for a TCA grant to cover 50% of the cost of a touring performance.
The Deadline to apply for TCA funding is November 1st for performances taking place between December 15th and March 14th, and Feb 1st for any performances taking place between March 15 – June 14.
